Amelia’s class at school had some visiting anatomy students from UC Berkeley. They brought in a dissected rat among other things, and Amelia made a paper model of the human digestive system. Her teacher had the kids write thank you letters and then graciously xeroxed Amelia’s and sent us home a copy. I am so happy that she did, because this is my new favorite correspondence by her.
In case you can’t read this, here is what she wrote:
Dear Annie and Kyle,
After you came, I was so much more interested in anatomy and also I knew way more about it. After taking anatomy classes for so long are you immune to gross things?(sigh) I wish we all were. Because you came I have one more job added to my list of jobs, which is about as long as my small intestine. Anyway, the new job idea is an anatomy scientist. Do you go to lots of schools, or was this the first school you’ve gone to? How long have you studied anatomy? When you were in 3rd grade, is this what you thought you would be doing? What inspired you to start studying anatomy? Do you ever have nightmares where the dissected rat is chasing you?
Sincerely,
Amelia
